149 years of Australian rules football

The first recorded game of Australian rules football was played on 7 August 1858 with a match played between Melbourne Grammar School and Scotch College. On the same day, the Melbourne Football Club, one of the world's first football clubs, was formed.

An earlier experimental match had been played a week earlier on 31 July, but no historical records remain.

In any case, Australian football pre-dates the other code played in North America known as American football.

What a shame that our Australian version did not end up being the world game. It is much more fun to watch. In my opinion anyway.

It was foggy this morning, and cold.
